Trash Art
I have always used salvaged junk in my art making, but have only recently become aware of it's recognition in "the art world". Along with needing an outlet for my personal tree-hugging tendencies it has made me employ its use more deliberately, rather than just coincidentally. I do not wish to compromise the quality of the end result of my art by restricting my use of salvaged materials, however this seems slightly inevitable.
Prize Winning Trash Art
While I incorporate trash and salvaged materials into as much of my art as possible, some pieces illustrate this more than others.

13th Annual Trash to Treasures Contest
The phrase or idea of "trash to treasure" has been used frequently to describe the process of using salvaged materials to create art, but I have unfortunately found a lot of the end resulting art pieces lead me to think of it as "trash to different trash". The inherent characteristics of materials such as plastic yogurt containers or plastic grocery bags in themselves will never match the beauty of glass, metal or wood. [wouldn't it be nicer to just never have plastic receptacles made in the first place?]

Sculptural Collage
Made of trash coincidentally, but far beyond collage, paper mache or sculpture... I wish I had time to pursue this technique more.
